The original edition of the game was refused classification in Australia upon its release in 2011 because of gratuitous depictions of dismemberment, decapitation & disembowelment. 
The news follows the announcement of Australia's first R18+ rating, which was handed to Ninja Gaiden three: Razor's Edge last week. Whether the new rating can accommodate titles that would otherwise have already been banned under former law will be seen in the results of the resubmission.

When CVG contacted the board last week following the Ninja Gaiden 3 announcement, the classification board advised that the new guidelines rendered the earlier methodology redundant. When asked whether Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge would have already been banned under earlier law, the board replied that "it would be inappropriate for the Board to contemplate last versions of those instruments in making its decision announced today." 

Mortal Kombat: The Komplete Edition is a brand new edition of the 2011 title bundled with all DLC. It's already accessible in Europe and North America.
